We’re the best! At least that’s what the judges at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower Show think. They recently voted Sunset® Western Garden Collection’s ‘Soft Caress’ Mahonia the 2013 Plant of the Year.
Celebrating its 100th year, the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London, England, is the most prestigious garden show in the United Kingdom, and often considered the most famous in the world. It is attended annually by more than 150,000 visitors, and its award-winners receive international notice.
The innovative ‘Soft Caress’ Mahonia is compact and evergreen, with soft, feathery leaves and no spines. Its yellow blooms brighten landscapes in late fall and early winter. Bred by Ozzie Johnson of ItSaul Plants in Alpharetta, Ga., and introduced to the retail market by Sunset® Western Garden Collection, it is a unique variation of the traditional mahonia, which is known for its pointed, waxy leaves and thorns. The ‘Soft Caress’ Mahonia is ideally suited for containers on porches or as a foundation plant in partial to full shade landscapes.
We’re really proud of this distinction as well as the innovative qualities of our plants.
